TAKE ACTION NOW!
Protect SNAP and Prevent Widespread Hunger

At Small Things, we believe no one should go hungry, but today, one of the most vital hunger-relief programs in the U.S. is at risk.

Following a harmful vote in the House, the U.S. Senate is considering devastating cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) as part of a budget reconciliation bill. If passed, this bill could result in up to 9.5 billion fewer meals per year for families who rely on SNAP to survive. A vote could come as early as June 23rd.

Here’s what that means:

  • Food banks like Small Things—already stretched thin—cannot replace what SNAP provides. For every meal a food bank distributes, SNAP provides nine.

  • Local grocery stores and farmers’ markets would lose vital SNAP-generated revenue, harming our economy.

  • For the first time, states would be forced to cover part of SNAP costs. Most cannot, leading to benefit cuts and tighter eligibility.

  • Families, children, seniors, and veterans in our region could go without food.

Small Things is proud to partner with Philabundance to protect this essential lifeline. But we can’t do it alone.

Convergint Partners with Small Things to Support Food Access and Safety

Volunteers from Convergint in Mt. Laurel, NJ, help pack Healthy Kids’ Snack Bags.

This month, Small Things was honored to be selected by Convergint—a global leader in technology and security solutions—as a community partner for their Social Responsibility Day 2025.

As part of this company-wide day of service, more than 25 Convergint employees from the Mount Laurel, NJ office volunteered at our Roxborough warehouse. Their energy and teamwork helped pack over 2,400 healthy snack bags for kids, which will go directly to families visiting our community markets.

But Convergint’s support didn’t stop there. Focusing on security systems and infrastructure, they also generously donated and installed a full security system at our Fairhill direct-serve market. This includes five or more security cameras, a recording system, and a building alarm, helping ensure the safety of the neighbors we serve and our dedicated staff and volunteers.

We are incredibly grateful to Convergint for their hands-on service and tangible contributions to our mission of feeding and supporting our Philadelphia community.

Small Things to Distribute 5,000 Summer Meals to Kids—Thanks to Giant Foods & Philabundance

When school cafeterias close for summer, many children in Philadelphia lose a vital source of daily nutrition. But thanks to a $250,000 donation from Giant Foods to Philabundance, Small Things will be stepping in to help fill the gap.

This summer, Small Things will distribute 5,000+ nutritious breakfasts and lunches to kids across the city as part of the Lunchbox program—a collaborative initiative aimed at reducing food insecurity during school breaks.

Prepared by students in the Philabundance Community Kitchen—a culinary workforce development program—the meals are delicious, fresh, and designed to nourish. Think: pancakes with apples, strawberry-topped French toast, wrapped chicken sandwiches, and hearty salads. These student chefs not only feed their neighbors but also earn ServSafe certificates and real-world culinary skills.

Earlier this month, Small Things joined Giant Foods and Philabundance at the Community Kitchen to preview the meals and celebrate the program's launch. Last summer, Lunchbox helped reach more than 60,000 kids citywide, and we’re proud to be a vital part of making it happen again in 2025.

With trusted partners and committed supporters, Small Things is making sure no child goes hungry this summer.
