Meet Yassmin Moor: Small Things' New Program Manager
We’re excited to introduce Yassmin Moor, the newest addition to our team at Small Things. With more than 15 years of experience managing international programs for organizations like CARE, the International Rescue Committee, World Food Program, and UNHCR, Yassmin brings deep expertise and passion to her new role as Program Manager. Now based in Philadelphia, she oversees our full suite of programs, including our three full-choice markets in Fairhill, Hunting Park, and Center City.
“What drew me most to this role was the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in some of Philadelphia’s most underserved communities, particularly in the Fairhill district — one of the city's poorest and most overlooked areas... I was seeking a way to contribute to something larger than myself, to be part of an effort that uplifts communities facing systemic poverty.”
Yassmin’s career has centered on supporting vulnerable populations across the globe. Now, she’s turning her attention to Philadelphia, where poverty remains a daily reality for far too many residents.
“Small Things’ mission deeply resonates with me — fighting food insecurity and bringing dignity and consistency to neighborhoods where resources are scarce, but the need is great...”
Meeting Urgent Needs with Urgency and Compassion
Yassmin is joining Small Things at a critical moment.
“I believe the work Small Things is doing couldn’t be more vital — especially at a time when Philadelphia holds the unfortunate distinction of being the poorest large city in the U.S... These markets are more than just places to access food—they are lifelines for individuals and families who struggle to afford even the basics.”
Through our network of 52 partner pantries and three community markets, Yassmin sees the impact Small Things is already having—and the opportunity to do more.
Leading the "More Than Food" Program
A major part of Yassmin’s new role involves leading and refining our More Than Food Program, which aims to put people on a pathway out of poverty by combining food access with resources, job training, and partnership support.
“What I find especially powerful is the relational aspect of Small Things' work—meeting people where they are and building trust... Through initiatives like the More Than Food Program... it's about creating pathways to dignity, stability, and long-term change.”
A Global Perspective, a Local Commitment
From refugee camps abroad to underserved neighborhoods in the U.S., Yassmin has worked in a wide range of crisis settings. Her approach—grounded in equity, empathy, and sustainable solutions—will help guide Small Things into its next chapter.
“Over the past 15 years, I’ve worked in both international and domestic contexts to support people in crisis... Every step of the way, I’ve been guided by a deep commitment to equity, compassion, and the belief that everyone deserves a chance to thrive.”
And now, she’s bringing that experience home.
“I bring both a practical understanding of food distribution and a values-driven approach to community engagement... I’m excited to bring those experiences home and contribute to Small Things’ mission of uplifting communities and fighting food insecurity in a meaningful, compassionate way.”
Ready to Build the Future
While Small Things’ warehouse in Roxborough may be a new setting for Yassmin, Executive Director Vito Baldini is confident she’s exactly the right person for the job.
"Yassmin’s experience, compassion, and empathy are the perfect mix of what is needed for the next phase of Small Things. She will help us build a solid foundation to launch our programs into the future. We couldn’t be happier to have her on the Small Things team.”
As for Yassmin, she’s already getting to work…and looking ahead:
“I’m most looking forward to gaining a deeper understanding of the real impact our work has on the communities we serve – and using that insight to help us grow and do even more... I’m excited about the opportunity to help shape programs that not only meet immediate needs but also contribute to lasting change and greater dignity for every person we serve.”
